EGAA's Submission to the Parliament's Loot Box Enquiry

2018-07-20 00:36:46

One of the key objectives of the EGAA is to help make a positive difference to the local esports scene. As recently announced, we do that via community engagement, representation, and advocacy – what we call the Community ERA model. We rally around our members, the issues they face as stakeholders, and in relation to key issues.

Gambling, and its effects on integrity, is a key issue facing our sector. Education and the provision of information to those outside of esports is critical to the effectiveness of our mission and our ability to represent and advocate for our members.

To that end, the EGAA Gambling & Integrity Panel recently worked with and provided some assistance to the Interactive Games & Entertainment Association (IGEA) in their submission to the Parliament of Australia’s Senate Committee inquiry into the effects of loot boxes. (By way of background, the IGEA is the publishers association.) We also made our own submission in support.

You can see our submission here and IGEA’s submission here.

The EGAA Gambling & Integrity Panel is facilitated by Board Member, David Harris and jointly led by gambling law expert, Julian Hoskins, and sports integrity expert, Iain Roy.

Please contact us if you have any questions or ideas to help make your EGAA even more effective.
